Transit time between these two countries is 5 to 8 days, depending on the port of destination within India. With a coastline of over seven thousand kilometers and thirteen ports, your options will depend on where within India the goods are destined.   Additionally, you will have options regarding the configuration of your shipment – LCL (less than a container load) or FCL (full container load). Containers also come in different sizes with 20 ft. and 40 ft. the most common.
• Customs and duties – For your protection, it is important to consult with a freight forwarder who is experienced and knowledgeable on the specific regulations unique to India. There are certain items that are restricted in India. Also, an accurate inventory of everything you are shipping is necessary as well. While a physical inspection of a shipment by customs officials isn’t a sure thing, if your shipment is singled out for inspection, the inventory list becomes very important. While most commercial goods are subject to duties, there are none imposed on household goods for people who are permanently relocating to India.
